'' In this course, you will explore the history of ATM, the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model, the parallels between the B-ISDN and OSI protocol stacks, the purpose of LAN Emulation (LANE technology), LANE’s capabilities and limitations, and the various network components that are used to build a LANE topology. You will examine ATM in Wide Area Networks, congestion management, avoidance mechanisms, ATM addressing, signaling, and services, the various aspects of LANE configuration, Cisco’s default addressing scheme, LANE design plans, and the commands that are used to configure each LANE component. You will examine how to configure Switched Virtual Circuits, Permanent Virtual Circuits, and Soft Permanent Virtual Circuits, explore how MPOA allows devices on different subnets and virtual or emulated LANs to communicate with each other, examine general design guidelines as well as the commands that can be used to configure an MPOA network, and identify the list of commands that can be used to monitor and maintain an MPOA system. Finally, you will examine Cisco’s LAN and WAN troubleshooting methodologies.

After completing this course you will be able to describe the purpose of ATM, the B-ISDN protocol stack, the OSI protocol stack and LAN Emulation (LANE). You will be able to discuss LANE network components, the concept of LANE operation, and LANE configuration considerations. You will be able to identify different formats for ATM addressing, and protocols for ATM signaling, and create a plan for LANE implementation. Finally, you will be able to configure virtual circuits, identify the devices used to build an MPOA system, and implement Cisco’s LAN and WAN troubleshooting methods.
