'' Quality of Service (QoS) may well be one of themost confusing and elusive topics in datanetworking today. QoS is a broadly-used termthat refers to the performance attributes of anend-to-end connection. The particular elementsof a QoS definition depend on the informationbeing transported. For example, QoS for voicedefines limits on specific parameters such asdelay, signal loss, noise, and echo. The definitionof QoS for data may identify attributes such aserror rates, lost packet rates, throughput, anddelay. In many cases, particularly in datanetworks, differing levels of QoS are supportedby the same network.
