'' Changeover Reduction is one of the fundemental techniques in lean manufacturing and a key enabler to waste reduction. Changeover is defined as the time required from the unloading or completion of the last good part until the production of the first good part on the next run. Reducing Changeover time enables production in smaller, more frequent batches, which has the following advantages: level production flow and output; elimination of waste and non-value added activities; improved manufacturing flexibility; and reduced inventory and lead times. Changeover Reduction may also be referred to as: Setup Reduction; Quick Changeover; Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED).
Objectives: Students will learn: the importance of identifying value streams within operations; factors to consider when selecting a value stream for improvement; steps to create a current state value stream map; how to calculate takt time and evaluate versus cycle time. ...''
