'' Offered jointly by BCIT, Digital Arts Program and Emily Carr University, Continuing Studies, the Design Essentials Program provides the best instruction in technical, practical and conceptual skills. Although a full-time program, courses are offered on evenings and weekends to provide both working and non-working students the opportunity to participate.
Through four terms of course work, you are engaged in all aspects of the graphic design process. Term one provides you with the basis upon which all other courses and terms are built. In terms two, three and four, along with course work, you work on a term project. The term projects allow you to demonstrate the development of your combined design and technical skills while providing an opportunity for self-directed work toward your portfolio.
The Design Essentials Program offers a unique opportunity for study focusing on the key elements of the creative design process, the principles and practice of graphic design and the technical skills required in the industry. Completion of the Design Essentials Program provides a foundation in the practical and theoretical skills of the design professional and a management certificate representing proficiency and skill.
The program is intended for students with limited experience in art and design and begins with fundamental courses in applied art and the creative process. The candidate for the certificate must successfully complete all prescribed courses within the one-year timeframe.
