'' The objective of the graduate accounting program is to prepare the student to meet the educational needs and requirements of the accounting profession, the AICPA, and the states. The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) approved an amendment to their bylaws requiring applicants for membership after the year 2000 to have 150 semester hours of education. Many states already require 150 semester hours of education to sit for the CPA examination.
The graduate accounting program at Old Dominion University allows a student to concentrate in one of five tracks.These tracks include Professional Accountancy, Managerial Accounting-Controllership, Assurance Services, Taxation, and Accounting Information Technology.Classes are offered primarily in the evening to accommodate working professionals, as well as full-time students.
The graduate accounting program can be completed full-time in one calendar year by students who possess an undergraduate degree in accounting. Students with undergraduate degrees in other fields may need two or more years of full-time study, depending on their undergraduate major.
