Course Description:

'' The best way to think of Tokyo is not as one city, but as several mini-cities linked by the railway and subway systems. A useful point of reference is the Yamanote line, a train loop which connects or encloses virtually everything of interest to the visitor. Sightseeing destinations outside the loop are mainly within what was once called the Shitamachi, or "low city", encompassing northeasterly Asakusa and Ryôgoku across the Sumida River. At the centre of it all, meanwhile, lies the mysterious green void of the Imperial Palace 每 home to the emperor and a tangible link to the past. Shibuya is a fashionable shopping and entertainment area. Here you will find the most famous landmark in Tokyo, the statue of the dog Hachiko, the mall with its many popular restaurants and Tokyu Hands, the ultimate leisure craft emporium in the world.
