Searching beyond the chemistry that is so exciting reveals a country of equal excitement with its extreme geographical diversity. Mexico is mostly mountainous with less than 15% arable land, lowlands in the southeast and along the coasts and the extensive Mexican plateau (with elevations generally above 4,000 ft) to the chain of mostly extinct volcanoes which include Popocatepetl, Ixtacihauatl, and Citlanltepetl (which at 18,406 ft. is Mexico¡¯s highest point). Over 95% of the people are Roman Catholic and many still speak the indigenous Indian language of the Aztec, Mayan, Toltec, Mixtec, Zapotec or Lomec. The appeal of Mexico today is sadly touched by drug related violence and corruption within business and government.
