Course Description:

'' Learning Spanish in Cuba, is a unique experience. Our Spanish courses in Cuba are held in Havana, in Santiago de Cuba and in Trinidad. Students learn Spanish in small groups, with fully-qualified native Cuban tutors. In Havana, the host families are all located in the area of Vedado, within walking distance of old town Havana. Alternatively, you can choose to stay in a 4-star hotel, or in a more basic guest house. Of course, staying with a Cuban host family will help you learn Spanish more quickly, as well as enable you to meet Cubans more easily and give you an insight in Cuban culture and daily life in Cuba.

The 4-star hotel and our school are both located in the affluent area of Miramar, in Havana. All rooms in the hotel are air-conditioned, with private bathrooms. The hotel has 3 restaurants, sports facilities, gardens and several pools. Students who stay in the hotel or guest house have Spanish lessons at the school. Students who stay in host families have lessons in their host family, given by fully qualified native Cuban teachers, in groups of a maximum of 3 students. In the school, the maximum class size is 8. As well as Spanish language courses, our schools in Cuba offer ’Spanish and Salsa’ classes.

Cultural Program: Our schools in Havana, Santiago de Cuba and Trinidad not only offer high quality Spanish courses, but also provide an optional cultural programme, consisting of visits, activities and excursions. The activities include rum and tobacco factory visits, beach trips, guided tours, and excursions to nearby towns and cities. This cultural program helps students who are learning Spanish at our schools practise out of class the Spanish language that they learn on their Spanish course, so that they learn as much Spanish as possible in the time available to them. The activities and excursions also ensure that students not only enjoy their time in Cuba and learn to speak the Spanish language, but also come to a deeper understanding of the Cuban people and of the way of life in Cuba.

Lying on a large bay, at the foot of the spectacular ’Sierra Maestra Mountains’, Santiago de Cuba is the second largest city in Cuba. On one of the promontories, at the entrance to the bay, is a magnificent colonial Spanish castle, perfectly preserved, with incredible views over the bay. In Santiago, students are placed in host families, in a quiet residential area, within easy walking distance of the historic city centre. Lessons are held in host families, in teachers’ homes or in a nearby cultural centre, students in ’mini-groups’ of a maximum of 3 and always with a fully-qualified native Cuban teacher. Many rooms have air-conditioning and some have private bathrooms. However, the standard of accommodation is still basic.

Trinidad, on the south coast of Cuba, is a beautifully preserved colonial Spanish town of just 50,000 people. A magnificent sandy beach lies just a short bus ride from the town centre. At night, the atmosphere is wonderful, with live music and Salsa dancing in almost every bar. Some tourism is now starting to reach Trinidad, but it still largely unspoilt. However, being much smaller than Havana and Santiago de Cuba, with fewer students and more difficult to reach, Trinidad is really for students who are a bit more adventurous.

The Spanish courses are held in teachers’ homes or in host families, in ’mini-groups’ of a maximum of 3 students, always with a fully-qualified native Cuban teacher.
