Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced
Course Description:
'' This course will build on some of your learning in previous courses to fine-tune your understanding of how the private and public health-care systems of the United States intersect in dealing with critical situations. Both of these systems are in place all the time; and, to some extent, their vigor determines our ability to respond to critical events. In this course you will use much of the knowledge, techniques, and reference materials you have used in previous courses in the SPCI program. We will examine the strengths and weaknesses of health care in the U.S. (including private and public health care) and how it interacts with emergency health-care services. Well look at the distinct "cultures" of private health-care, public-health, and emergency services providers to prepare you to interact with each of these sectors. Well discuss strategic stockpiling and its place in public health and emergency situations. We will emphasize the interrelation of all these systems and their existing communication channels and coordination activities in times of emergencies. We will also discuss governments funding role and issues of balancing ongoing public-health needs against emergency preparedness. Finally, well look at various communications issues (such as communication among first responders, with government officials, or with the general public) as well as pyschological recovery from major traumatic events. ...''
