Course Description:
'' Students meet for two six-hour Saturday sessions conducted on campus. Students examine the role of a director in shaping a vision, the organizational and communicative qualities of a good director, and the dual responsibilities of a director as both artist and technician. Topics covered include imagination, leadership, taste, showmanship, expertise in various film-related crafts and subjects, and curiosity, as well as collaboration with producers, assistant directors, actors, and technicians. Also covered are the directorę?roles in the three phases of film production: pre-production, which includes story development, scripting, and revision, as well as casting, budgeting, and hiring; production, in which creative work with actors and crew must be kept on schedule; and post-production, which includes hiring an editor, viewing dailies, assembly, and various stages of cutting. ...''
