Course Description:

'' The printing and graphic imaging industry is the third largest manufacturing industry in the United States, employing more than three quarters of a million people. It is estimated that nearly one third of those employed by the printing industry are over age 55. In addition to the aging workforce, nearly 5,000 new jobs are created each year due to the rapidly changing methods of printing and image transfer.

The printing and imaging process is used in the manufacturing and marketing of just about every item that we use. Whether it is the label on an item that you purchase or the dashboard of your car, it was printed. The way we communicate today has increased the demand for printed products as much as 20 percent. The internet has actually caused a major increase in the demand for printed material.

Prepare for a Great Career
Today’s printer is responsible for a lot more than putting ink on paper. The creation and generation of high-resolution digital graphic files and the distribution of those images via Local Area Networks, the Internet, CD-ROM, DVD-ROM are all part of the printers job. There is a job for just about everyone with an interest in working with their hands, mind, and an interest in creative problem solving and working with computers.

While most Printing and Digital Graphic Imaging Technology graduates continue their studies by gaining a bachelor of science degree in either Printing Management or New Media Printing and Publishing from Ferris, those who don’t will find many great job opportunities in the printing industry with an average starting hourly wage of $12.00.

Admission Requirements
Admission to the College of Technology is open to high school graduates who demonstrate academic preparedness, maturity and seriousness of purpose with backgrounds appropriate to their chosen program of studies. Among first-time students in our technical programs, the average high school GPA is 2.8, and the average ACT composite score is 20.

Students wanting to enroll in any of the programs in the Printing and Imaging Technology Management Department at Ferris may begin in either fall or winter semester. Students must have an ACT score of 17 and high school GPA of 2.5.

Graduation Requirements
The Printing and Digital Graphic Imaging Technology program at Ferris terminates with an associate in applied science degree but leads to a bachelor of science degree in Printing Management or New Media Printing and Publishing. Graduation requires a minimum 2.0 GPA in core classes, in the major and overall. Students must complete all general education requirements as outlined on the General Education website. ...''
