Training Course:Intro to MayaSchool/Trainer:Future Media Concepts, Inc. Boston, Chicago, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, Washington DC, United States
Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced
Course Description:
'' This course focuses on the basics of 3D computer graphics using Autodesk Maya. Students are introduced to the Maya interface and philosophy and 3D modeling, texturing, lighting and rendering. Lectures will cover the application of these tools in the film, television and game industries.
Our Maya classes use project based learning to create skills and knowledge through hands-on exercises.
Day 1 - Introduction to Core Concepts and the User Interface
Project 1: Keyframe a snowman coming together over a background plate This project introduces how to set your project, the Maya user interface, keyframe animation, and in camera compositing of animation over live action.
Project 2: Create a moving solar system This project develops keyframe animation skills, teaches how to create multiple pivot points in a single, XYZ coordinates, object, world, and local space, grouping, parenting and hierarchy.
Day 2 - Developing a Variety of Sculpting and Construction Tools
Project 1: Build a room This project teaches how to use Maya as a tool for architecture, interior design and digital sets. We build a room, looking at multiple techniques for windows and doors. Creating molding and trim teaches a NURBS to polygon workflow that that combines the best of both tool sets.
Project 2: Building furniture Building a couch and coffee table develops techniques for smoothing that allow control over sharp and soft edges. The end table continues our NURBS to polygon workflow, as we create more complex curves and spirals.
Project 3: Modeling a soda can Creating our budding protagonist completes our NURBS to polygon workflow, with a focus on the particular demands of modeling for animation.
Day 3 - Lighting and Texturing
Project 1: Texturing the room and can By texturing the objects we have modeled we learn how to control the attributes of Mayas diverse shading materials. Students learn the different uses of procedural and Photoshop textures. Students also learn the basics of UV mapping to objects to get the best texture results.
Project 2: Lighting the room We use the task of lighting our room set to learn how to control and use various lights.
Day 4 - Riggin, Animation and Rendering
Project 1: Rigging Having sculpted and painted our soda can, its time to make it move. We look at the pros and cons of IK vs. FK to determine the best control system for our actors movement.
Project 2: Character animation We bring the rigged can into our digital set and animate his actions. We go over the basic theories of animation, applying anticipation, muscle tension and squash and stretch to our cans jump. We also animate the camera move to add intensity to the shot.
Project 3: Rendering We learn how to use Mayas software render engine output to render the scene file so everyone ends up with a short finished piece to take away. ...''
