The Associated Training Services (ATS) Heavy Equipment Operator Programs are comprehensive, industry developed, and nationally recognized by employers in the construction, earthmoving, and excavation industries.

Phase 1 ��?Theory Training
The trainer guides trainees through a comprehensive and interactive review of the operator workbook covering:
◦Applicable regulations
◦Variations of equipment types
◦Main parts
◦Understanding equipment safety
◦Fuels and batteries

Phase 2 ��?Theory Evaluation
The trainer administers a written test based on the concepts covered in the operator’s reference manual. The test consist of ten multiple choice/essay-type question, which are graded and returned to the trainees, then reviewed to ensure understanding. A minimum score of 70% is required to pass.

Phase 3 ��?Practical Training
Trainees are shown the pre-use inspection, safe operating procedures, and parking/shut-down procedures and then given the opportunity to practice under the helpful eye of the program trainer.

Earthmoving (Backhoe/Loader Operations) - Statement of Attainment

On successful completion of this course, the learner will attain the minimum training & assessment standards for certification and the safe operation of loadshifting equipment.

You must:
have sufficient knowledge of the English language to perform your work safely
be 18 years old to obtain national WorkCover certification.

What to bring
Please bring original documentation for proof of identity. Photo ID is mandatory.
Wear suitable clothing and footwear. Safety shoes or boots are preferred.

There is a demand for heavy equipment
operators in the construction industry. Obtain
the knowledge and hands-on skills required to
become a certified backhoe/loader equipment
operator. Prerequisite: current Fork Lift
certification from Bates Technical College.

This course instructs equipment operators in the safety aspects, preventive maintenance, operating techniques, and proper procedures for using backhoes. Instruction can be tailored for any level of experience or geared to provide evaluations for more experienced operators. Participants receive a student workbook. Customers receive class rosters and course evaluations. Backhoe(s) must be available for this training.

Backhoe training is progressive, as the instructor will introduce general maneuvers and work towards those of increased difficulty and complexity. Participants are encouraged to attempt, practice and perform instructed simulations to demonstrate their understanding of proper loader-backhoe operation. Program content can be adjusted to meet particular issues or concerns, and the instructor will routinely assist individuals with sticking points.
