Digital Publishing Training Courses and Workshops

The Certificate II in Printing and Graphic Arts (Desktop Publishing) will equip students with basic skills and knowledge to enter the desktop publishing industry. Students will use industry standard hardware and software to learn and practice skills required to prepare page layouts to meet job specifications. This is an entry level course. It is anticipated graduates will be able to produce small publications, including office and school publications, from start to print. Graduates will also be able to meet current growth in industry for professionals in print/pre-press. Having an understanding of the design/print process also opens doors in the graphic design, brochure design, newsletters, press advertisement and image manipulation.

This certificate program is designed for students who wish to learn Adobe’s suite of applications. It is designed to supplement and enhance students’ skills and knowledge in prepress production, graphic design, business and/or marketing. This certificate can be earned entirely online. Students can apply these courses toward an associate degree at MATC.

This course is a module of the New OCR CLAIT.

Subjects you study include:-

Creating new publications using Microsoft Publisher
Importing and placing text and image files
Manipulating text and images to balance a page
Managing and printing publications
Setting up a standard page layout and text properties
How is the course assessed?
You will be assessed during the course. If you successfully complete this course, you will gain one module of the OCR New CLAIT certificate, which is widely respected by employers.

Students learn publishing and design fundamentals, including layout, graphic imaging and typography, and are introduced to a variety of industry-standard computer applications used in the production and presentation of print and online media. Students may choose a focus on pre-press and/or Web publishing, or may complete both the production design and Web design courses for further specialization.

Students address advanced topics in publishing and design, with an emphasis on content management, design and development processes, and creative teams. Students work with a variety of industry-standard computer applications used in the production and presentation of print and online media.
