The School of Social Sciences and International Studies (SSIS) is offering the first specialist Social Work in Counselling Masters (MSW) in Australia. Designed for practising social workers, it is aimed at consolidating and extending counselling knowledge and skills. Two commitments provide the cohering framework of the program ?the first is to family-sensitive practice, and the second is to counselling methods that are oriented to clients?strengths and promote resilience. The program is part-time across two years and it is offered every two years only. The intake into the first year occurs in alternate years. The next intake into the first year of the MSW in Counselling program is for the 2009 academic year. The program is not available for International Students, nor is it available by distance education or on a full-time basis.

The program is available with the option of an ‘exit-only?Graduate Diploma. Students may choose to exit the MSW program with the qualification of Graduate Diploma on completion of the first year courses and selected second year course/s totalling an additional 8 Units of Credit. Once a Graduate Diploma has been awarded for this study, it is not possible to upgrade the qualification to a Masters degree.
