With approximately 16,000 registrations annually, UBC Continuing Studies offers a wide range of programs to participants from local, national and international markets.
Program Areas
Arts, Humanities and Public Affairs
History, literature, art, music, architecture and critical thinking: our courses are your gateway to explore new interests or investigate favourite topics. Public affairs lectures are designed to foster knowledge and generate discussion on community issues. Certificate programs in Liberal Studies and Garden Design provide opportunities for career enhancement or change.
Centre for Intercultural Communication
Develop your ability to live and work with confidence in multicultural and international settings. The Centre for Intercultural Communication offers courses and certificate programs that help individuals and organizations address the cross-cultural challenges of becoming truly global citizens.
Centre for Sustainability
The new UBC Continuing Studies Centre for Sustainability is a resource to help individuals and organizations develop competencies to effectively manage sustainability initiatives. The Centre leverages UBC expertise in sustainability to create innovative and practical educational programs targeted to lifelong learners, both locally and globally.
Applied Technology
From project management to web analytics, business systems analysis to integrated marketing strategy, from multimedia to IT certification, our instructors bring a wealth of industry experience and our state-of-the-art computer labs give you access to the latest technologies. Study part- or full-time through classroom or online learning. Over 150 courses and 12 certificate programs are available, most of them are available at our downtown Vancouver campus, UBC Robson Square.
English Language Institute
Choose from short- and long-term English language study for learners of every level and interest. Instructors at our English Language Institute are experienced ESL teachers with graduate degrees and specialized training.
Global Academics
Global Academics are a group of unique programs designed to provide international university students the chance to take part in academic life while studying in Vancouver, Canada, at UBC. Students can also experience intercultural communication first-hand and explore the career skills that can give them an advantage in seeking and finding a good job when they return to their home country.
Programs for Health and Human Service Professionals
This is an interdisciplinary program area that focuses on professional development for people working in health care related fields. Currently we have courses on International Health, Aboriginal Health and Community Administration, Practice/Clinical Education, Rehabilitation and Social Work.
Languages, Cultures & Travel
Learn a language and explore a culture. Qualified instructors teach beginner to advanced level conversational classes in over a dozen languages as well as certificate programs in French, Spanish and Italian. Part-time evening, weekend and day-time options are available, as well as full-time summer intensives and travel immersion programs. Our destination travel programs are led by experienced UBC guides who help you explore a topic such as travel writing, photography or art history in another culture and locale. We also have on-campus programs in understanding wine, beginner to advanced levels, and culinary arts in the cuisines of France, Italy or Spain.
