The master of science degree in clinical and translational rehabilitation health science is open to those with a related science major interested in strengthening their core undergraduate major with advanced course work in research and rehabilitation science. A master’s degree may strengthen a pre-professional student’s application for entry into physical therapy, physician assistant studies, occupational therapy or medical school. A student may choose from three areas of emphasis for their degree: community wellness, sports medicine, including biomechanics, or performance enhancement. Both thesis and non-thesis options are available.

Language Interpreter - Sight Translation

Sight translation, sometimes referred to as sight interpretation, is a hybrid of interpreting and translation. Using documents related to a number of different settings, the course will instruct participants in the fundamentals of sight translation and assist in the development of related skills, such as reading comprehension, scanning for main ideas, fast reading, analysis of language, vocabulary enrichment and comprehension verification through paraphrasing. Students will also develop skills to manage ethical and performance challenges in sight translation.

The Language Interpreter Certificate is designed for billingual individuals who wish to work as spoken language interpreters in the legal, health care, social service and domestic violence prevention sectors in Ontario.Integrating theory, principles and concepts with practical application and skills development, the program aims to assist individuals in developing the introductory level competencies, skills, knowledge and attitudes required for proficient practise as language interpreters. This program incorporates essential employability skills, the fundamental, personal management, and teamwork skills necessary to get, keep, and progress in a job-of-choice, or to enter further postsecondary studies.

Spanish Translation (Certificate)

Students receive a Graduate Certificate in Spanish by completing 15 credit hours of course work according to the required sequence for the particular language.

The emphasis of this program is on translation into English. This certificate program provides students with an academic grounding in translation theory and practice. Students interested in obtaining further translation credentials are encouraged to discuss their options with the appropriate language advisor.

For core courses to count toward the certificate, students must receive a grade of B or better. For non-core courses, students complete an additional translation project beyond the normal course requirements and must receive a satisfactory evaluation for their project. Students will only be permitted to do these translation projects after having completed at least one of the first two core courses. Students must have an overall 3.00 grade point average in certificate courses in order to be awarded the certificate.

French Translation (Certificate)

Introduction to themes in the Chinese literary tradition. English translations of poetry, prose, fiction, drama from the 11th century B.C.E. to the 20th century, with emphasis on premodern Chinese literature. Lectures, discussions, student essays, and supplementary background readings on literary, cultural, historical, philosophical, religious, and social background of Chinese literary works studied. The 231 option for the course entails extra readings and assignments on theories and methodologies for literary and cultural studies. The 230 and 231 options may not be taken simultaneously.
